Colombo (Daily Pakistan Online) Angelo Mathews has etched his name in Sri Lankan cricketing history, becoming the third player to achieve the milestone of 8,000 Test runs. The former captain reached this landmark during the second Test match against South Africa, scoring 40 runs off 71 balls. Mathews joins an elite group, following in the footsteps of Kumar Sangakkara, who holds the top spot with 12,400 runs in 134 Tests, and Mahela Jayawardene, who amassed 11,814 runs in 149 Tests. With 8,006 runs in 116 Tests, Mathews now sits comfortably in third place on Sri Lanka’s all-time Test run-scorers list. Dimuth Karunaratne (7,164 runs) and Sanath Jayasuriya (6,973 runs) occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
