Lahore (Daily Pakistan Online) In a significant move to protect wildlife, the Special Wildlife Squad Punjab has launched a crackdown on illegal hunting in the Border Belt Public Wildlife Reserve. The squad intercepted three hunting parties in the areas of Gatti, Nadala, and Marchola Tehsils of Gujrat, recovering slaughtered animals and various hunting equipment, including firearms and hundreds of cartridges.
The operation resulted in the arrest of six accused, who were caught red-handed on the spot. Legal action has been initiated against them under the Punjab Wildlife Act. It is worth noting that hunting of any kind is strictly prohibited in Public Wildlife Reserve areas of Punjab province, including the Border Belt area, without a special permit from the Punjab Wildlife Department.
According to the Punjab Wildlife Act, no other department is authorized to issue permits or permission for any kind of hunting . This emphasizes the importance of obtaining legitimate permits from the Department of Wildlife and Parks Punjab to engage in hunting activities. The crackdown by the Special Wildlife Squad Punjab serves as a strong deterrent against illegal hunting and highlights the government’s commitment to protecting wildlife in the province.
