UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Shot Dead Outside NYC Hotel

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot at point-blank range in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning, according to police. Thompson, 50, was scheduled to attend an investor conference at the Hilton hotel, where he was shot outside around 6:40 a.m.
The masked gunman, who remains at large, appeared to be lying in wait and shot Thompson several times from behind, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. The shooting is being investigated as a “brazen, targeted attack” that was “premeditated,” but the motive remains unknown.
Thompson’s schedule was widely known, and police sources said he was not staying at the Hilton, despite the conference being held there. UnitedHealthcare’s parent company, UnitedHealth Group, expressed shock and sadness at Thompson’s passing, describing him as a “highly respected colleague and friend.” ¹
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz also paid tribute to Thompson, calling the news “horrifying” and a “terrible loss” for the business and healthcare community in Minnesota. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information, and Thompson’s family and colleagues have been offered support during this difficult time.
