The Twitter Terror: Federal employees live in fear of billionaire’s cyber attacks

Elon Musk’s recent Twitter posts targeting federal employees have sparked widespread fear and outrage among government workers. The billionaire CEO reposted two tweets that revealed the names and titles of four relatively obscure climate-related government positions, subjecting the individuals to a barrage of negative attention.
The posts, which have been viewed tens of millions of times, targeted employees at the US International Development Finance Corporation, the Department of Energy, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. At least one of the employees has deleted her social media accounts due to the harassment.
Federal employees are now living in fear of being targeted by Musk and his followers. “These tactics are aimed at sowing terror and fear at federal employees,” said Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees. “It’s intended to make them fearful that they will become afraid to speak up.”
Musk’s actions have been condemned by experts and academics, who describe them as a form of cyber harassment. “What has happened has an incredible and horrific chilling effect,” said one expert.
