Senator Sherry Rehman Slams Judiciary and State Institutions for Failing to Protect Women from Rising Gender-Based Violence

Islamabad (Daily Pakistan Online) Senator Sherry Rehman has presented a resolution in the Senate, calling for swift action to address the alarming rise in gender-based violence. The resolution highlights the judiciary and state institutions’ failure to bring perpetrators to justice, despite the existence of 480 special courts dedicated to hearing such cases.

The resolution notes that the lack of effective action against accused individuals has led to an increase in tragic incidents. Furthermore, it emphasizes that shortcomings in investigating gender-based violence cases, coupled with government institutions’ negligence and judicial injustice, have hindered efforts to prevent crimes against women.

Rehman’s resolution demands that the government take immediate and concrete steps to address this critical issue. It also calls for a comprehensive report to be presented to the parliament, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability in tackling gender-based violence.
