Karachi (Daily Pakistan Online) Pakistan is grappling with a significant surge in the prices of ghee and cooking oil, exacerbating the woes of citizens already reeling under the impact of inflation. Over the past two months, the prices of these essential commodities have increased by a whopping 20 percent, further straining household budgets.
According to market reports, the price of ghee per kilogram has skyrocketed from Rs 30 to Rs 120 in various cities, while cooking oil prices have risen from Rs 50 to Rs 150. At the retail level, the price of first-class oil and ghee has increased from Rs 505 to Rs 559, while the price of second-class oil has risen from Rs 440 to Rs 500.
Dealers attribute the price hike to the escalating cost of raw materials in the global market. The impact of this increase is also being felt at utility stores, where the price of ghee per kilogram has risen by Rs 40, and the price of cooking oil has increased by Rs 55. As the prices of these essential commodities continue to soar, concerns about the affordability of basic necessities are growing, further underscoring the need for effective measures to mitigate the effects of inflation.
