Peshawar (Daily Pakistan Online) A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court against the deteriorating law and order situation in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The petition, filed by a local citizen, names the provincial government, federal government, and federal interior department as parties. The petitioner argues that the closure of roads in Kurram has deprived citizens of basic health facilities and the ability to enter or exit the district.
The crisis in Kurram district has been ongoing for two months, with the Parachinar-Tal Wahid Main Highway closed to all traffic since October 12. As a result, essential supplies, including food, medicine, and fuel, have been cut off, leaving citizens struggling to access basic necessities. The situation has become so dire that citizens are being forced to pay exorbitant prices for food items, with potatoes selling for Rs. 350 per kilogram, tomatoes for Rs. 200, and onions for Rs. 300.
The Christian and Hindu communities in Kurram district have also been severely impacted by the crisis, with many facing difficulties due to the lack of LPG, wood, and food items. Shakeel Joseph, a member of the Christian community, expressed concern about the situation, stating that December is a month of celebration for the community, but this year, people are worried.
In response to the crisis, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has issued orders for the immediate supply of food and beverages to Kurram district. However, citizens are still waiting for relief, and are demanding that the Parachinar-Tilman Highway and the Pak-Afghan Kharlachi border be opened as soon as possible to alleviate their suffering.
