Lahore (Daily Pakistan Online) Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has commended Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan for abandoning militancy and engaging in parliamentary discussions. Addressing the National Assembly, Tarar welcomed Ayub to the house, acknowledging his shift towards parliamentary democracy as a positive move. Tarar emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue, citing the public’s expectation for lawmakers to engage in respectful discourse.
Tarar noted that the current state of affairs, with rumors and misinformation circulating outside the parliament, underscores the need for logical and explanatory discussions within the house. He expressed optimism that Pakistan will move forward, with its people prospering and the country developing. While acknowledging that disagreements will arise, Tarar hoped for increased consensus on key issues.
Correcting Ayub’s assertions, Tarar clarified that inflation and other economic indicators are not solely determined by the government. Instead, he attributed the current economic landscape to the previous government’s restructuring of the State Bank, which was done at the behest of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Tarar highlighted the subsequent autonomy granted to the State Bank, linking it to the current economic situation.
Despite this, Tarar pointed out that the inflation rate has decreased, reaching single digits, and the interest rate has dropped from 23% to 15%. Experts predict further reductions in the interest rate. Tarar concluded by praising the opposition’s decision to engage in parliamentary discussions, anticipating that this development will foster progress and improvement for the people of Pakistan.
