Lahore (Daily Pakistan Online) The Lahore High Court has taken a significant step in addressing the woes of slow internet speeds in Pakistan, issuing notices to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other relevant authorities. This development comes in response to a petition filed by the Judicial Activism Panel, which challenged the decision to slow down internet speeds in the country.
During the hearing, Justice Iqbal Chaudhry presided over the petition, which argued that the slow internet speed has become a major concern for citizens. The petitioner contended that the current internet speed is extremely slow, causing worry among the public. They urged the court to intervene and order the relevant authorities to improve the internet speed.
The petition also highlighted the embarrassing fact that Pakistan’s internet service ranks 198th globally, due to the slow speed. This ranking is a clear indication of the need for urgent improvement in the country’s internet infrastructure. The petitioner requested the court to direct the authorities to speed up the internet, ensuring that citizens have access to reliable and efficient internet services.
The Lahore High Court, in response to the petition, has issued notices to the PTA and other relevant authorities, seeking their response to the allegations made in the petition. The court has adjourned the hearing, pending the receipt of responses from the authorities. This development is a positive step towards addressing the long-standing issue of slow internet speeds in Pakistan.
