Lahore (Daily Pakistan Online) The Lahore High Court has sought a response from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) regarding the recent increase in petroleum product prices. Justice Shahid Karim heard the case, which was filed by Muneer Ahmad, challenging the price hike.
Azhar Siddique, the petitioner’s lawyer, argued that the prices of petroleum products in the international market are currently at their lowest. Despite this, the government has unjustifiably increased the prices, which will only serve to exacerbate public difficulties. Siddique contended that the price hike will usher in a new wave of inflation and urged the court to declare the recent increase invalid.
The Lahore High Court has issued a notice to the Federal Ministry of Petroleum and OGRA, seeking their response to the petition. This development comes as the latest in a series of challenges to the government’s decision to increase petroleum product prices.
