Lahore (Daily Pakistan Online) The Lahore High Court has issued a written decision rejecting the acquittal plea of Sheikh Rashid, the head of the Awami Muslim League.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf of the Lahore High Court issued a written decision rejecting Sheikh Rashid’s acquittal plea.
The written decision stated that the court dismissed the acquittal plea in the May 9 GHQ attack case. The petitioner filed the acquittal plea at the initial stage. Witnesses are yet to appear in the case and the trial is pending.
The decision stated that the court will decide on acquittal after considering the witnesses and testimonies. The court rejects the acquittal plea at this stage. The petitioner will be free to file an acquittal plea at the trial stage. The court will decide on the new acquittal plea according to the law.
The court further stated in its decision that according to the petitioner, the case against him was registered on political grounds. According to the petitioner, he is not likely to be punished. According to the police, the petitioner was nominated in light of the statements of the co-accused.
