Islamabad (Daily Pakistan Online) The Supreme Court’s constitutional bench, led by Justice Aminuddin, convened to hear the government’s contempt petition against Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General confirmed the government’s serious intent to pursue the case, which stems from Khan’s alleged violation of a court order during a long march on May 25. Justice Aminuddin indicated that should the court take notice, Khan would be required to appear in court. Justice Jamal Mandokhel remarked on the emotional response from the government, emphasizing that the contempt issue lies solely between the court and the individual accused of disrespecting it. Khan’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, argued that his client had submitted a response to the notice, but communication difficulties due to a mobile service shutdown had hindered timely contact. Justice Musarrat Hilali inquired whether Khan had received the notice, to which Raja confirmed that the response was filed only after the notice was received. Ultimately, the constitutional bench decided to adjourn the hearing indefinitely.
