New Delhi (Daily Pakistan Online) India has successfully tested the K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from a ballistic missile submarine, believed to be the recently commissioned INS Arighaat. The test, conducted on November 27 off the coast of Visakhapatnam, marks a significant milestone in India’s nuclear deterrence capabilities.
According to Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the test was successful, but more data is awaited on the trajectory of the missile. This development comes as India enhances its overall military capabilities, having test-fired a range of missiles with varying ranges in the past few years.
The K-4 missile has a range of approximately 3,500 kilometers, making it a significant addition to India’s nuclear arsenal. With this test, India joins a select group of countries capable of firing nuclear missiles from land, air, and underwater.
The INS Arighaat, commissioned into the Indian Navy on August 29, is the second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine in India’s fleet. The submarine is equipped with advanced indigenous technologies and has the capability to launch nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles.
In related developments, Admiral Tripathi announced that the government has approved the procurement of two nuclear-powered attack submarines, demonstrating its faith in India’s indigenous capabilities. Additionally, the Navy Chief confirmed that 62 ships and a submarine are currently under construction, with several platforms awaiting induction in the next year ¹.
