Pakistan has received a staggering $24.7 billion under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, with 43 projects already completed, according to the Ministry of Planning.
The ministry revealed these details during the question hour in the National Assembly session.
Furthermore, eight projects worth over $700 million are currently underway, with two projects each in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one project each in Sindh, Punjab, and Islamabad.
The announcement, however, was marred by the absence of ministers in the house during the question hour, drawing the ire of the Deputy Speaker. He warned that if ministers continue to behave in this manner, the matter will be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.
Government members, including Hanif Abbasi of the PML-N and Sharmila Farooqui of the People’s Party, also expressed their outrage over the ministers’ absence, with Abbasi labeling it a waste of the country’s and nation’s money.
Farooqui, meanwhile, pointed out that the Prime Minister has already termed the track and trace system a fraud.
