WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS Group B Day 3 – Japan too good for Korea; Australia beat Dominican Republic

Defending champions Japan claimed the honours against Korea in a repeat of the WBSC Premier12 2019 final in the Taipei Dome on Friday. Earlier in the day, Australia beat the Dominican Republic.

World No. 1 Japan claimed their second win from as many games with an efficient 6-3 win over No. 6 Korea on Day Three of Group B action at the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS in Taipei. Earlier in the day, Australia claimed their first, beating the Dominican Republic 5-0.

Defending champions Japan now sit equal with Chinese Taipei on top of the Group B standings with two wins from two. Australia, Dominican Republic and Korea all have one win to their name although Dominican Republic and Korea have two defeats compared to Australia’s one.

On Friday, Japan, who beat Australia in their opening game in Nagoya, claimed the honours against Korea in a repeat of the WBSC Premier12 2019 final in the Taipei Dome in what was also a match up of the two previous Premier12 winners.

Japan will play Chinese Taipei on Saturday in another headline game in the Taipei Dome with the winner taking a significant towards a top-two finish in the group and a spot in the Super Round.

Meanwhile, four pitchers took a no-hitter into the eighth, and Robbie Perkins delivered four RBIs as No. 15 Australia defeated No. 12 Dominican Republic, 5-0, and earned their first win of the tournament.

“I’m pleased by how we played today,” commented Australia’s manager David Nilsson. “I gave the ball to a veteran like Warwick [Saupold] to get the game going; after his three innings, we went with the matchups. We pitched well and played good defence.”

“What happened today is obvious,” said Dominican manager César Martin. “Our batters were too anxious. Our lineup hasn’t performed the way we wanted in the last two games. We need to keep our heads ahead. There’s nothing we can do to change what has already happened. We want to keep competing, even if we will play Japan and Korea to finish the round.”
