New Delhi (Daily Pakistan Online) The Supreme Court of India has decided to hear a plea seeking a ban on websites that display jokes on members New Delhiof the Sikh community after eight weeks. The plea, filed by Harvinder Chowdhury, alleges that these websites project Sikhs in poor light and perpetuate bullying and harassment against them.
During the hearing, Chowdhury highlighted the grievances of Sikh women who are ridiculed for their attire and children who are bullied in schools. She also cited an incident where a boy allegedly died by suicide due to bullying.
The bench, comprising Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, observed that it is an important matter and granted Chowdhury eight weeks to consolidate her suggestions and file a short compilation.
The Supreme Court had initially agreed to hear the plea in 2015, following which more petitions raising similar grievances were filed ³. The petitioner has referred to the presence of over 5,000 websites that display jokes on Sikhs and project them in poor light.
