LAHORE (Daily Pakistan Online) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called for a comprehensive plan to protect people from floods, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent urban flooding, river flooding, and river erosion in the province.
Chairing a special meeting to review flood prevention measures, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to purchase machinery to prevent urban flooding. She also ordered the cleaning of floodways under motorways, highways, and railway tracks to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater.
To address the issue of waterlogging on roads, the Chief Minister instructed authorities to lower the level of green belts and ensure timely cleaning and rehabilitation of flood drains. She also stressed the need for effective implementation of laws to prevent flooding.
In a bid to mitigate the impact of urban flooding, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif agreed to a proposal to build storage tanks in affected cities. She noted that the sewage system in cities needs improvement, particularly in light of the suffering of people due to submerged roads. The Chief Minister directed authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation and improvement of the sewage system.
