LHC upholds decision to hang son for killing father

LAHORE Feb 11: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected the appeal of Ghulam Murtaza, a son who was convicted of murdering his own father.

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court has upheld the trial court’s decision to hang the convicted son. The case of murder of his father Allah Dutta was registered against Ghulam Murtaza in Batala Colony police station, Faisalabad district.

A bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard the appeal of convict Ghulam Murtaza.

The Deputy Prosecutor General opposed the acquittal of Ghulam Murtaza and took the position that Ghulam Murtaza was disobedient and vagrant.

The case was registered on July 2, 2016. The culprit is proved guilty in the police investigation and medical report.

The trial court handed down the sentence on merit, taking into account the arguments of the lawyers, police interrogation and medical remand.

The defense counsel argued that despite the lack of concrete evidence, the trial court had sentenced Ghulam Murtaza to death. Therefore, it is pleaded that the court should quash the death sentence passed by the trial court.
