Tokyo (Daily Pakistan Online ) Princess Mikasa, the oldest member of Japan’s royal family and great aunt to the emperor, has died at the age of 101. According to the Imperial Household Agency, she passed away on Friday at a Tokyo hospital, where she had been hospitalized since March after suffering a stroke and pneumonia.
Born Yuriko Takagi on June 4, 1923, Princess Mikasa was married to Prince Mikasa, the younger brother of wartime emperor Hirohito, and had five children. She recalled the difficult times faced by the family after the war, including losing their home and struggling financially.
Princess Mikasa’s passing was met with condolences from the royal family and the Japanese government. She is survived by her three granddaughters, including Princess Akiko, who remains a member of the imperial family.
The princess’s death marks the end of an era for Japan’s royal family, and her legacy will be remembered for her strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
